Political Science

Department of Political Science

The first faculty members in political science at IU Indianapolis predate the establishment of the campus itself—in other words, political science began as a program of the old IU Extension program in Indianapolis, which was combined with Purdue’s Indianapolis extension operations to create IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis) in 1969.

For more than 50 years, the Department of Political Science has made significant contributions to the IU School of Liberal Arts. These achievements have stood the test of time and include the creation of the Paralegal Program and the Global and International Studies Program. They also include adding the Legal Studies minor and the Law in Liberal Arts Major, which today is one of the school's most popular offerings.
