Extracurriculars for Arabic and Islamic Studies
The Arabic and Islamic Studies Program offers a variety of extracurricular activities every year, including Arabic Qahwa Conversations, lectures, films, community events, and performances. We support the efforts of the Middle Eastern Students Association and other clubs that seek to nurture student life. All of our activities are open to all IU Indianapolis students, regardless of religion, race, ethnic background, gender, or sexual identity. We also seek to accommodate persons with disabilities. Many of our extra-curricular and co-curricular events occur off campus, reflecting the program’s focus on community engagement. Rather than asking community members to come to us, we also go to them, bringing us together–students, faculty, staff, and community members–for learning and celebration. Community-focused events have included a free screening of American Muslims: A History Revealed at the Kan-Kan Theater and a community lecture at Alhuda Foundation.
Arab American Heritage Month in April is always a busy season. In 2025, for example, the program co-sponsored an Arab American community fair with dabka dancing, an art exhibit, food, and information tables at the Global Village.
